Height: 45 feet Spread: 40 feet Sunlight: Full sun Hardiness Zone: 4b
Description: The Princeton Gold Maple is a beautiful shade tree known for its bright golden-yellow foliage in spring, which retains its vibrant coloration throughout the entire season. Tough and durable, this tree makes an excellent street tree as well. Protect the bark from sunscald when young to ensure healthy growth.
Ornamental Features:
Form: Oval habit of growth.
Flowers: Stunning corymbs of lemon-yellow flowers adorn the branches in early spring before the leaves emerge.
Foliage: Attractive yellow deciduous foliage that emerges gold in spring. The lobed leaves are highly ornamental but do not develop any appreciable fall color.
Landscape Attributes:
Dense deciduous tree with a shapely oval form.
Coarse texture that stands out among landscape plants with finer foliage.
Low-maintenance tree; should be pruned in summer after leaves have fully developed to avoid 'bleeding' sap.
No significant negative characteristics.
Recommended Uses:
Shade
Planting & Growing:
Grows to about 45 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 40 feet.
High canopy with a typical clearance of 7 feet from the ground; not suitable for planting under power lines. Lower branches can be strategically removed as it matures to create a high canopy that allows unobstructed human traffic underneath.
Grows at a medium rate and can live for 80 years or more under ideal conditions.
Thrives in full sunlight.
Prefers average to moist conditions and should not be allowed to dry out. May require supplemental watering during drought or extended heat.
Not particular about soil type or pH.
Highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner-city environments.
This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.
